See the light at vox:lumen

In vox:lumen, the world premiere of a new contemporary performance piece by choreographer William Yong of Zata Omm Dance Projects, dancers are illuminated by energy generated from their own movement, renewable sources and the audience. It’s the biggest experiment staging sustainability in Canadian dance/theatre history, and is made possible by the multi-year partnerships with Harbourfront Centre, York University and Aesthetec Studio.

Throughout the self-fuelled show, audiences witness five dancers traverse a dystopian future where they must create light to see, hunt and appeal to a mate. But, of course, we need light in order to see what’s happening on stage, and Yong’s dancers and the audience harvest that necessary energy in a variety of ways, including through the use of newly designed power-generating apparatuses created specifically for vox:lumen. These devices not only create and store energy they also influence the movement, and the piece works to integrate the demands of the experiment into the choreography.

Come and see vox:lumen, running March 4-7 at the Harbourfront Centre Theatre. Click here to purchase tickets, or call our box office at 416-973-4000.
